Pheromones in Integrated Pest Management V. Fruit Moths and Twig Borer on Peach and Plum Trees

Hrdý I.

The plum fruit moth (Cydia funebrana) is the worm infesting plums, whereas caterpillars of the peach twig borer (Anarsia lineatella) damage the fruits and shoots of peach and nectarine trees. In 1976 when pheromone traps were used in the Czech Republic, they confirmed the occurrence of the Oriental fruit moth (Cydia molesta), which originates in East Asia and was unintentionally introduced to Europe through North America. Up to a half of what was caught in the original pheromone traps, designed for plum fruit moths, were Oriental fruit moths, which cause the damage traditionally attributed to the peach twig borer. New pheromone evaporators are already species-specific and are being tested for male confusion by a cloud of a synthetic sexual pheromone.
