Among important leafy vegetables are also several representatives of the Asteraceae family: garden lettuce (Lactuca sativa) with numerous varieties, differing in their shape, colour or taste, dandelion (Taraxacum sp.), whose vegetable varieties are bleached to reduce the bitterness of the leaves, and two species of cultivated chickory - common chickory (Cichorium intybus) and true endive (Cichorium endivia).
