Termite Vibrations as an Alarm Signal

Šobotník J., Weyda F., Hanus R.

Termites (Isoptera) are eusocial insects living in numerous communities with differentially specialized castes. Because they live in permanent dark, optical communication is meaningless for them. In addition to chemical communication, which is common in insects, they also use both tactile (contact) and mechanical communications, the latter by means of vibrations (oscillations).
