Cedars are the most legendary evergreen trees all over the world (probably the oldest cedar wood in our country is a part of a cross dating from the time of the Charles IV, from the mid-14th century). Nowadays cedars are increasingly planted in gardens and parks. Three cedar species – Cedrus atlantica, C. libani, C. deodara - give rise to the entire range of cultivars. This article provides information on cedars in a broader context, from history, through morphology and systematics up to conservation. Localities where cedars grow are described on the basis of present knowledge.
