The Desert Tortoise as a Bioindicator in the Mojave Desert

Cetkovský S.

The Desert Tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) lives in the Mojave and Sonora Deserts in the Southwest U.S.A. and Northwest Mexico and has perfectly adapted to the harsh conditions in this area. Increasing disturbance caused by humans has resulted in a dramatic decline in its population numbers, making it an important bioindicator that reflects environmental changes.
