Corypha – Palm with the Greatest Inflorescence

Zelený V.

Palms of the Corypha genus have a giant inflorescence formed above the cluster of leaves. This inflorescence can even reach several metres in height and can contain up to several million flowers. Nevertheless the flowers appear only once after several years of palm growing and the plant dies after the fruits ripen. This genus originates from tropical regions of the Old World. Some species are critically endangered in their natural habitat.
