Green Toilers and Pale Swindlers – Plants, Mycoheterotrophy and Mixotrophy

Non-green plants lack chlorophyl and are therefore unable to perform photosynthesis, yet they need a source of organic carbon. They use various means to obtain carbohydrates, all involving different forms of parasitism on green plants or fungi. The article focuses on the epiparasitism of mycoheterotrophic and mixotrophic plants on surrounding green plants by cheating common my­corrhizal networks.
