The geological rift along the southern margin of the Krušné hory Mts. displays an ideal natural archive of fossiliferous layers. In this issue, the special case of hot calcareous springs connected with massive exhalations of CO2, producing an early miocene travertine cascade is described. The deposits contain a unique mammalian assemblage as a result of the trophic chain influenced by a natural deadly trap. The mammalian carnivores were attracted by the carcasses and also subsequently died.
