Materials, Structures, Systems and Signals for Electronics, Optoelectronics and Photonics

The proposed Institutional Research Plan focuses on three Research Thrust Areas – Photonics, Optoelectronics, and Signals and Systems. In Photonics, research effort will be focused on modern passive, active and non–linear photonic structures and systems based on optical fibers, planar waveguides, diffractive structures and photonic crystals for applications in communications and sensing. The Optoelectronics Research Thrust will include development and characterization of new materials and micro– and nanostructures for optical waveguides, detectors and solar cells. The third Research Thrust, Signals and Systems, will encompass investigation of generation, transmission and processing of signals in frequency and time etalons, multiuser networks, and speech systems.
