Reinforcement of elastic membranes with fractal strings.
Abstract:
We consider a composite body consisting in a plane elastic
membrane reinforced with the insertion of thin, but hard, elastic strings.
As the strings become thinner and thinner, they develop infinite length and
fractal geometry, while their elasticity modulus becomes larger and larger.
We study the asymptotic behavior of the spectrum by the energy approach of
homogenization theory and characterize the limit problem.
