The case of sports has not been yet of the major interest in the
Project of sports law focuses on issues concerning questions how much law intervenes into rules of sporting interest and when certain conditional autonomy of sport is accepted. European Court of Justice in the case of Bosman not only declared transfer rules/player quotas existing at that time as incompatible with free movement of persons according to European law but at the same time it recognized that in view of the considerable social importance of sporting activities and in particular football in the Community, the aims of maintaining a balance between clubs by preserving a certain degree of equality and uncertainty as to results and of encouraging the recruitment and training of young players must be accepted as legitimate. The Court did recognize the specificity of sport which is different from other industrial fields. Due to consequence of the fact that Czech republic entered EU that is why the focus of this project is European law and sport in the light of provisions of free movement of persons, services and competition law. The studying of sports law field also includes the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Another current topic is also liability in sport. The project is based on sources of sports law from abroad, thus bringing the inspiration to the Czech legal environment of sport.
The goal of the project is also to bring together experts in the field and enable cooperation also at the level of workshops. The outcome is also publications and internet web page related to sports law.
