Lomond   -   Sun HPC cluster, EPCC, Edinburgh

The cluster consists of:

  • Front-end: SMP system HPC 3500 with 8 UltraSPARC-II/400 processors and 8 GB of shared memory
  • Back-end: two SMP systems Sun Fire 6800 with 24 UltraSPARC-III/750 processors and 48 GB of shared memory

Installed software includes operating system Solaris 2.8, Sun Grid Engine for distributed resource management and Sun implementation of MPI for communication of parallel processes.

Nowadays, Lomond is SMP system Sun Fire E15000 with 52 processors UltraSPARC-III/900. The machine is partitioned into two domains, front-end with 4 processors and back-end with 48 processors.
