10.12.2012 - Genetics of mitochondrial diseases project awarded
Josef Houštěk, M.D., DSc. awarded by Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic
On December 10th, 2012, Health Minister Leoš Heger presented the award for extraordinary achievements in Health Research and Development Projects supported by the Ministry of Health. One of the five special awards was given to Dr. Joseph Houštěk of Institute of Physiology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic for the project entitled "Genetics of mitochondrial diseases due to defects in ATP synthase." His group focused on very important molecular motor that generates molecules of ATP, which are necessary for all synthesis and degradation processes as universal energy sources. Two other scientists of Institute of Physiology, Josef Zicha and Jaroslav Kuneš co-authored another award-winning project of 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague. Mr. Heger wished all the winners further achievements in the application of new knowledge into practice.
