Events/Hans Kelsen Lectures

The Hans Kelsen Lecture is a pivotal event in the academic life of CeLAPA, which invites annually to Prague a senior scholar of international standing, whose work has shaped the way we think about the law. The lectures aim to reflect not only the range and impact of Kelsen’s scholarship, which aside from legal theory and philosophy dealt with almost every aspect of domestic and public international law, but also his aspiration to a legal scholarship that is sensitive to the foundational and philosophical aspects of the law. The inspiration for the lecture series came from the birthplace of Hans Kelsen which was located in the intersection of Národní und Spálená in Prague, only a short walk from the premises of CeLAPA. Following the delivery of the annual lecture a picture will be taken with the lecturer in front of the plaque that commemorates Kelsen’s birthplace.
