The Laboratory of Environmental Geochemistry deals with research of the geochemical aspects in recent environment. The basis for research is long-term monitoring of elemental fluxes in the environment on selected areas of the Czech Republic, with the aim to characterize and understand dynamics of some hazardous elements (As, Cd, Pb, Hg) and its compounds with respect to potential risks for humans and ecosystems. Further research efforts are focused on a basic geochemical research of the trace elements, on behaviour of Fe, Co, Ni in the environment or the issues of acidification and connected environmental issues. Due to the studied topics we are using highly sensitive analytical techniques, such as AAS (atmomic absorption spectrometry) or ICP-EOS (emission optical spectroscopy with inductively coupled plasma; the Thermo Elemental IRIS INTREPID II spectrometer).
