Psapharochrus jaspideus, well known and in West hemisphere widely distributed Neo-tropical species of Acanthoderini tribe (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay), was with high probability unwittingly introduced to Azores with tropical timber [❖]. The species, known also under Spanish name "Taladro jaspeado", is reported as a serious pest in plantations of Schizolobium parahybum and Persea americana in Central and South America.

Reared from larva found by our friend Ladislav Karaus in Ponta Delgada environs (São Miguel Island, Azores, Portugal).
