Phytoecia (Helladia) imperialis has been described by Gianfranco Sama and Martin Rejzek [❖] from Orumiye, Azarbaygan-e-Garbi province (NW Iran) in 2001. The species is related to Phytoecia (Helladia) ferrugata Ganglbauer, 1884, Phytoecia (Helladia) orbicollis orbicollis Reiche et Saulcy, 1858, and Phytoecia (Helladia) orbicollis adelpha Ganglbauer, 1886. All specimens of Phytoecia (Helladia) imperialis were collected on Centaurea imperialis (Asteraceae). which most likely serves as their host plant.
