The present Latin commentary (probably written by Stephan of Páleč) on Wyclif’s De universalibus, in which the first nine chapters are expounded, is the only extant commentary on Wyclif’s most important philosophical work. The author did not proceed word by word but, instead, chapters were divided into thematic units and expounded as a whole. This made the commentary particularly convenient as a basis for discussions which were part of the then university education. If one of its purposes was to serve as a „teaching tool“, it provides us with further insight into teaching methods exercised at the Charles University Faculty of Arts towards the end of the 14th century.
