The Martinu Quartet came into existence in 1976. The members of this quartet
studied at Prague Conservatory under Viktor Moucka, and at the Academy
of Performing Arts under Antonin Kohout. They participated in a number
of courses led by members of internationally important quartets, and won
awards in several international competitions, for example in Prague Spring
Festival, Portsmouth (Great Britain), ARD Munich, Evian (France). The quartet
gives concerts regularly both at home and abroad (Europe, USA), organizes
regular tours (Holland, Spain), takes part in international festivals (Prague
Spring, Arjeplog, Sweden; Orlando Festival, Holland; Bath in England, and
others) and they collaborate with radio and television. Their repertory
includes compositions of the world quartet literature, focusing mainly
on Bohuslav Martinu's works. Many compositions as performed by the Martinu
Quartet have been recorded on CDs.
