Acanthocinus xanthoneurus is a species of enormous ecological and biogeographical interest known only from Italian Apennines (from the Tuscany-Emilia Romagna Apennines to Sicily). The beetles are nocturnal and can be found on dead beeches, where are developing their larvae.
Body length: 9 - 13 mm Life cycle: 1 year Adults in: May - June Host plant: monophagous on European beech (Fagus sylvatica) Distribution: an endemic species to the Italian Apennines (from the Tuscany-Emilia Romagna Apennines to Sicily).
The depicted beetles were observed and photographed by our friend Marcello Benelli in Passo della Calla (Italian northern Apennines).
