The Lawyer Quarterly

Časopis The Lawyer Quarterly, který náš ústav vydává od roku 2011 byl nově zařazen do světově uznávané bibliografické a citační databáze odborných časopisů Scopus společnosti Elsevier's A&I.

Tato databáze vznikla v roce 2004 a v současné době patří mezi nejprestižnější databáze tohoto typu na světě. Ve Scopusu je zaindexováno cca 21 000 časopisů, které prošly náročným evaluačním procesem.

Practices and Techniques: Assembling the Social Through Law (17th / 18th of May 2017) a workshop organized by Institute of State and Law, Centre for Law and Public Affairs (CeLAPA) Academy of Sciences.

As the landscape of statehood morphs, legal techniques feed off unprecedented autonomy and self-sufficiency. With the waning of state politics as a claim-making venue where social actors could obtain a visibility laden with pragmatic effects, today’s theolegality emphasizes law being an instrument to produce effects. More than the seat of justice or a dispute-settlement machinery, the legal realm is the place where subjects produce their own reality by (re)describing what they are and do through the legal jargon. However, most jurisprudential paradigms are still tied up to views that objectify and solidify actors: judicial elites, law firms, laypeople – sedimented macro-actors that stably dwell in the new scenery.

This workshop takes stock of recent advances in social theory that contend the social as being continuously done and undone by those who create connections and produce networks. The aim of the workshop is to contaminate approaches to the changing legal landscape in order for them to be able to grapple with how legal actors (experts, laypeople, legal categories and legal objects) are being assembled and reassembled.

Underlying themes are:

How should we conceive a practice insofar as the law aims to govern it?

How do legal means (rules, categories, words, objects) change practices as social actors use them to provide an account of what they are doing with a view to producing legal effects?

How is the processing of assembling and reassembling impacting on the conception of what law is?

The final objective is to draw new philosophical and jurisprudential lines that might help foreground the key relation between social actors and legal techniques as the law becomes a space of political visibility.

The deadline for submissions is 30 of April 2017. The corresponding author of selected paper will be informed by 5th of May 2017.
