Professor Jiří Drahoš, President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, appointed Professor Martin Hof director of J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences for the five -year period 2017–2022. He replaces Professor Zdeněk Samec in the post, whose mandate ends on 30 April 2017.
Martin Hof was born in 1962 in Friedberg (Germany). He obtained his PhD (1990) and habilitation in physical chemistry (1999) in Würzburg (Germany). After employments at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill (USA), Charles University in Prague, and University of Patras (Greece), he joined the JHI Institute on May 1, 1997, where he gradually built up his laboratory for development of novel fluorescence techniques. In 2006 he obtained the DSc degree from the Czech Academy of Sciences and in 2009 he was named to be Professor for physical chemistry.
