In this talk I will describe the work of my group at IMN (Institute of Micro and Nanotechnology, CSIC) in Madrid, Spain. I will show some examples of how nanotechnology and photonics can work together (Nanophotonics) and the advantages we have found in this combination. Specifically I will present results on the first room-temperature thresholdless laser made by combing photonic crystals and quantum dots. I will also show some examples of opto-nanofluidic devices for biosensing applications and optical sensors based on Fano resonances using gold nanowires. Finally I will talk about future optomechanical devices for quantum sensing of temperature that may use diamond as its constitutive material.
