Psapharochrus jaspideus, well known and in West hemisphere widely distributed Neo-tropical species of Acanthoderini tribe (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay), was with high probability unwittingly introduced to Azores with tropical timber [❖]. The species, known also under Spanish name "Taladro jaspeado", is reported as a serious pest in plantations of Schizolobium parahybum and Persea americana in Central and South America.
