Pseudosphegesthes cinerea is rare and also often overlooked European species with scattered populations accross South Europe. The larvae develop in the dead wood of branches and trunks of oak species (Quercus petraea, Quercus robur, Quercus ilex and Quercus pyrenaica), especially canopy branches. The adults, only very ocassionaly visiting flowers, are active from June to August.

The depicted beetles were reared from larvae collected in a dead oak branch (Quercus robur) in Hirzfelden (Alsace, France).Collected by our friend Ladislav Karaus
