Species was moved into a newly estabilished subgenus Paracoptosia by Mikhail Danilevsky in 2017 [✩]. According to M. Rejzek et al. [❖] in Turkey Phytoecia (Paracoptosia) compacta sancta develops in Anchusa italica (Boraginaceae).
