Research interests of Department of Nanocatalysis
The Department of Nanocatalysis, established in January 2019, has it main research focus on the fundamental studies of model catalyst designed with atomic precision of size and composition in the subnanometer size range. The nanocatalysts will be fabricated using size-selected cluster deposition technique. Using this technique, first a beam of atomic clusters of various sizes and composition is created in vacuum, followed by mass selection of clusters with single atomic size and composition of interest, and the subsequent deposition of clusters on model and technologically relevant support materials. The ultimate goal of the interrogations of the nanocatalysts under realistic reaction conditions is to establish relationships between the size and composition of the nanocatalysts and their activity and selectivity in heterogeneous catalytic reactions, along with the effect of support and reaction conditions on their performance.
