Acanthocinus hispanicus, an endemic Spanish species described by Gianfanco Sama and Peter Schurmann [❖], is very close to Acanthocinus henschi, but different from it in several characters: a long rib missing on the base of the elytrae, denser and lighter pubescence of the whole body or more pronounced protuberances on the disc of the pronotus.

Body length:	10 - 15 mm
Life cycle:	1 - 2 years
Adults in:	June - September
Host plant:	pines (Pinus pinea, Pinus silvestris, Pinus halepensis)
Distribution:	an endemic species to Spain [✧]

The depicted beetle was reared from larva found in dead pine in Barracas (NE Spain).
