Junior developer (HPC models)

The project team consists from experienced researchers from Norway (NANSEN Institute) and Czech Republic (Institute of Computer Science of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Dept. of Atmospheric physics of the Charles University, Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, and ATEM – Studio of Ecological Models).

The company ATEM in cooperation with ICS CAS opens a tender for a part-time job position “Junior developer” in the scope of this project. The extent of the position is 0.5 of a full-time job with possible extension. The position is intended mainly for university graduates, doctoral students or postdoctoral researchers but the call is open for all suitable applicants. The scope of the job will be mainly cooperation on development of the microscale atmospheric model PALM including its pre-processing and post-processing tools, model testing and calibration, preparation of the model configurations and data, running simulations on HPC clusters and supercomputers, and collaboration on model evaluations. The successful applicant shall closely cooperate with project members from other partner institutions mainly with ICS CAS.

We expect good skills in programming, an active and enthusiastic approach to tasks, and the ability of the cooperation inside the international team. An advantage is some level of experience with parallel programming via MPI and OpenMP, experience in programming languages Fortran2008 and Python, and the experience with operating system Linux (user level). These skills are not essential but ability and desire to acquire new skills are expected.

We offer an exciting work on leading edge atmospheric modelling tools and their applications in practice inside a top-class international research team with stability for the next three years. The place of work is Prague but partial home-office work is allowed. We offer salary of 20 000 CZK per half-time position (full time equivalent 40 000 CZK). In case of a skilful applicant, it is possible to extent this job in a form of parallel part-time job at ICS. The supposed start of the work is the 1st January 2021.
