Innovative tasks for studying the memory and cognition

Our laboratory at IPHYS CAS has a long-term tradition for designing innovative behavioral tests for memory and cognition, especially navigation in dynamic environments. These tasks allow us to specifically aim different memory systems. The lecture will discuss previous and recent advances in development of these tasks and show neurobiological and neuropharmacological studies employing these tasks.

Classical and touchscreen-based behavioral tests for evaluation of striatal functions

Striatal malfunctioning is associated with various neuropsychiatric diseases. To discover their mechanisms and find an effective cure, behavioral testing of rodent models is indispensable. While classical behavioral tests have been extremely useful in this effort, they face some challenges including major effect of experimenter on the test outcome. Touchscreen-based tests can solve some of these challenges and we will discuss their use as well as use of classical tasks.

Behavioral comprehensive phenotyping of rodents

Genetic engineering opens an avenue of research opportunities to probe molecular bases of a variety of human diseases. Our service offers screening of transgenic animals and new drugs in standard and customized tests that would help to understand mechanisms underlying neurological and psychiatric disorders including, but not limited to, anxiety, schizophrenia, mood disorders, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and Alzheimer’s disease.
