Agapanthia izzilloi, described by Pierpaolo Rapuzzi, Gianfranco Sama And Attila Kotán from Peloponnese in 2013 [❖], belongs to the homogeneous group of metallic Agapanthia (Smaragdula) - Agapanthia amitina Holzschuh, 1989 from North Iran, Agapanthia pesarini Sama & Rapuzzi, 2010 from Southern Turkey, Agapanthia psoraleae Sama & Rapuzzi, 2010 from Lebanon [✧] and Agapanthia gemella Holzschuh, 1989 from Cyprus. The species for the large size of body is closer with A. gemella but is immediately separable from it by the longer antennae. The antennae ringed in both sex permit to separate the new species from all other species of this group. It is very interesting to note that the this taxon is the westernmost species of a species group widespread from the North-East part of the Mediterranean Sea till the mountains up to the Caspian Sea [❖].
Body length: 7 - 13 mm Life cycle: 1 year Adults in: May - June Host plant: Arabian pea - Bituminaria bituminosa (L.) C.H.Stirt. (Fabaceae) Distribution: species endemic to Greece
The depicted beetles were collected on the host plant in Souli (Σούλι) village environs (570 m a.s.l., Arcadia, Peloponnese, Greece) on May 21, 2018.Collected by David Navrátil
