This rare Pogonocherus species, recently discovered also in Czechia, has so far only been known from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Italy, Austria, Romania and Greece. It develops in dead fir (Abies sp.) branches.

Body length:7 - 9 mm
Life cycle:1-2 years
Adults in:May - July
Host plant:conifers: prefers Abies, rare records in Pinus.
Distribution:Central and South Europe


The depicted mounted beetle was reared from larva developing in Abies cephalonica twig found in Arachova environs (1660 m a.s.l., Parnass Mts., Biotia, Greece) on May 24.-25, 2018. The living specimen was reared from larva feeding in the fir (Abies alba) branch found in Adamov environs (South Moravia, Czechia).
