Drymochares cylindraceus

A rare species of the Iberian Peninsula. The larval development takes place in the underground parts of dead deciduous trees. The beetles are nocturnal, with secretive lifestyle.

Body length:♂♂ 14 - 16 mm / ♀♀ 17 - 23 mm
Life cycle:2 - 3 years
Adults in:June - August
Host plant:Quercus, Pyrenean broom (Cytisus oromediterraneus) [❖]
Distribution:Portugal, Spain


The depicted mounted beetles were collected by Josef Steinhofer in Salamanca environs (Salamanca province, Castile and León, Spain) in June 2015. Both specimens in the collection of Adam Woźniak.
