The larvae of this beautiful beetle develop in the decaying wood of many deciduous trees (hornbeam, oak, beech, hazel, goat willow). Adult larvae leave the wood mass in the autumn, overwintering in the soil, and here they also pupate. Imago is active in May and June.
Species, originally assigned into Oxymirus genus, was put into new subgenus Neoxymirus by Miroshnikov in 2013 [❖], eventually Mikhail Danilevsky elevated this subgenus into genus rank in 2014 [✧].
Body length: 15 - 25 mm Life cycle: 3 years Adults in: May - June Host plant: polyphagous in deciduous trees Distribution: South Russia, Caucasus, Transcaucasia, North Iran, NE Turkey
