The larvae of this beautiful beetle develop in the decaying wood of many deciduous trees (hornbeam, oak, beech, hazel, goat willow). Adult larvae leave the wood mass in the autumn, overwintering in the soil, and here they also pupate. Imago is active in May and June.
Species, originally assigned into Oxymirus genus, was put into new subgenus Neoxymirus by Miroshnikov in 2013 [❖], eventually Mikhail Danilevsky elevated this subgenus into genus rank in 2014 [✧].

The depicted mounted beetles were found on blossoming Crataegus in Zānūs (زانوس) environs (1730 m a.s.l., Kojur District, Nowshahr County, Māzandarān province, North Iran) on May 26, 2019. The depicted living beetle was reared from larva collected in decaying wood of Fagus in Alamdeh (Māzandarān province, N Iran).Collected by David Navrátil and M.Rejzek
