The species (as well as the genus Dolocerus) was originally described by Mulsant (1862) and successively by Heyden (1863),
but the oldest name has not been used as valid since 2012 and is declared nomen oblitum according to Article 23.9
“Reversal of precedence” of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature fourth edition (ICZN, 1999; Löbl & Smetana, 2010)
(cfr. Lemaire & Gros, 2016). Danilevsky (2012, ❖) affirmed that the spelling Dolocerus reichii Mulsant, 1862
(as well as the genus Dolocerus) must be corrected because the “Reversal of precedence” according to which priority
may be reversed only if two conditions are both met and in the present case, the second condition (Art. 23.9.1.2.)
is unrespected (ICZN, 1999) [✧].
