Deroplia schurmanni, a nocturnal species endemic to El Hierro (Canary Islands), has been described by Gianfranco Sama in 1996 [❖]. The beetle is oligophagous on various Euphorbia plants (such as Euphorbia balsamifera Ait. or Euphorbia regis-jubae W. & B.).
Body length: 10 - 20 mm Life cycle: 1 - 2 years Adults in: December & September Host plant: oligophagous on various Euphorbia spp. Distribution: a species endemic to El Hierro (Canary Islands Spain)
The mounted beetle was reared from a larva found in a dead Euphorbia sp. branch in Sabinosa environs (10 m a.s.l., El Hierro, Canary Islands) on January 14, 2017. The depicted living beetle was reared from a larva found in a dead branch of Euphorbia balsamifera Ait. in Charco Manso NW Valverde (El Hierro, Canary Islands).Collected by Petr Kabátek and M.Rejzek
