Parmena europaea, recently described by Mikhail Danilevsky and Erdem Hızal based on Ukrainian and Romanian specimens [❖],
is close to Parmena pontocircassica Danilevsky et Miroshnikov, 1985.
But P. pontocircassica has 1st antennal joint shorter and wider; lateral thoracic tubercles bigger;
elytral punctation denser and bigger; elytral band relatively narrow, usually interrupted along suture,
its light borders less contrast and light setae spots near scutellum distinct. The species is not similar to
Parmena unifasciata (Rossi, 1790), which is usually much bigger and lighter (reddish),
with another pattern of pronotal and elytral punctation.
Body length: | 6 - 8 mm |
Life cycle: | 1 year |
Adults in: | May- July |
Host plant: | unknown - probably polyphagous in deciduous trees and various herbs as sister taxa |
Distribution: | Romania, Ukraine |
The depicted beetle was found near Baile Herculane (Caras-Severin county, Romania) on May 1-3, 1997.
