Immigration is one of the most contentious fields of contemporary European urban policy. While the development of urban segregation is well documented in traditional immigration countries with population register data, there is a lack of detailed research on population dynamics in many countries and cities across Europe. This article examines ethnic residential segregation in Czechia in the period after the economic crisis of 2008.

Our chapter aims to describe the contemporary civic values of the people of Czech Republic within a European perspective. The following indicators have been chosen to represent activities, attitudes, and values that may sustain a democratic civic political culture: political interest, feelings of political efficacy and active participation in civil society and politics.

This study investigated the effects of family socioeconomic status on children’s academic performance as mediated by their home environment and children’s characteristics, with special attention to gender differences. Structural modeling was applied to a nationally representative Czech Household Panel Survey data (2015/2016). The results revealed that socioeconomic status had no significant direct effects on school performance after controlling for other family aspects.

Scholars and practitioners endorse public participation in the decision-making process as enhancing the health of democracy, justice, and effectiveness of policy outcomes. To sustain or even increase the number of participants in the long run, it is crucial to start raising a new politically active generation already during their youth and even early adolescence.

Immigrant incorporation in cities is often explained using the theories of spatial and segmented assimilation, which differ, among other things, in their approach to the spatial aspects of incorporation. However, empirical evidence about immigrant spatial incorporation from both theories is ambiguous, since most case studies focus on a single location and a limited number of immigrant groups, which hampers their external validity.

This article deals with Ukrainian student migration and the convergence of integration and transnationalism. Its main focus is the self-identification of young Ukrainians studying in the Czech Republic. The authors explore and describe international students' different integration and transnational dispositions and also discuss whether these dispositions could be seen as part of antagonistic or synergetic processes.

The text focuses on definitions of subcultures and presents important approaches to study youth music subcultures – the Birmingham school and post-subcultural theories. The author debates the possibilities of applying these approches in post-socialism and address post-socialist features of the Czech subcultures. In particular, the author argues that there is a strong ethos of individualism, which resonates with the liberal and neo-liberal values that became dominant in the 1990s.

Perspectives on migrant integration differ by time and place. This article examines this vague concept to shed light on how its evolution over time has shaped the current conceptions of migrant integration in the EU and the Czech Republic. It describes the situation in the Czech Republic and the country's normative goals in the field of migrant integration. While the country has explicit integration priorities in place, there is no evaluation of their fulfilment.

Perspektivou longitudinálního kvalitativního výzkumu článek přispívá k porozumění růstu bezdětnosti v ČR skrze zachycení zkušeností a identit bezdětných a osvětlení mechanismů, které vedou k dlouhodobému setrvávání v bezdětnosti či změnám reprodukčních identit a plánů. Výzkum vychází z analýzy zpravidla po 11−12 letech opakovaných problémově orientovaných rozhovorů s ženami a muži, kteří byli v 1.

Fenomén bezdětnosti je jedním z rysů demografického vývoje evropských populací. V mezinárodním kontextu se Česká republika řadí k zemím s nejnižším podílem bezdětných žen v populaci. Podle projekcí bude nejvyšší, téměř pětinový podíl trvale bezdětných v generacích narozených v polovině 80. let, v dalších generacích by měl postupně klesat na 11 %, podíl žen se dvěma dětmi se sníží na 45 až 47 %.

This article reports on a new empirical study evaluating crime concentration at places in a postsocialist city. We use principles of the law of crime concentration at places and the Cambridge Crime Harm Index to measure crime count and crime harm concentration at the level of street segments. The research found differences between crime concentration in a post-socialist city and crime concentration reported by recent studies from US or UK cities.
