Jiří Homola, director of the Institute of Photonics and Electronics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, spoke in an interview for Týden magazine in the second part of the series Czech Science Close: Photonics and Electronics.
It has been 60 years since the first laser eye surgery in Czechoslovakia, which took place under the direction of Dr. Jan John in the building of our institute in 1964.

The LasApp project wants to effectively support lasers and thus the technological development of the Czech Republic. It will connect excellent research centres of the CAS, Charles University and other institutions and will focus on the most modern fibre and thin-disc lasers, which are applied e.g. in engineering, medicine and defence systems. Today, prof. Andrews from the University of California gave the lecture at ÚFE on the topic of personalized medicine and predictive treatment. After the lecture, the professor visited the laboratories conducting related research.
During her half-day visit, the President of the Cezch Academy of Sciences Eva Zažímalová visited seven laboratories in the building in Kobylisy. The management of the Czech Academy of Sciences appreciated the cutting-edge research supported by prestigious projects, as well as the growing successful commercialization of some research outputs.
