The International Geological Correlation Programme (IGCP) was launched in 1972 to facilitate geological cooperation across state boundaries and cultural zones of the world. The evolution of science about Earth System requires the data and contributions from all parts of our planet. The IGCP is known today (since 2003) also as the "International Geoscience Programme"
Current projects cover many parts of the world in many disciplines. IGCP operates worldwide with several thousand of scientists in about 150 countries. Large number of world countries reflect the constitution of IGCP in regional structure having their own national committees which are responsible, according to intergovernmental agreements, for organisation of national groups and activities in relevant scientific projects. The main corporate purpose of the UNESCO with IUGS is a liberal development of geosciences in the world, with special emphasis on communication among scientists, solution of tasks of large public or theoretical interest or betterment of information flow. You are welcomed to participate!
