1. INTRODUCTION

Maple is a Symbolic Computation System or Computer Algebra System. Maple manipulates information in a symbolic or algebraic manner. You can obtain exact analytical solutions for many mathematical problems, including integrals, systems of equations, differential equations, and linear algebra problems. Maple contains a large set of graphics routines for visualizing complex mathematical information, numerical algorithms for providing estimates and solving problems where exact solutions do not exist, and comprehensive progamming language for developing custom functions and applications.

2. HOW TO USE MAPLE IN THE INSTITUTE OF PHYSICS

Maple offers two basic user versions. The first one is its advanced Worksheet Graphical Interface Version ( WGIV ). A worksheet is a flexible document for exploring mathematical ideas and for creating sophisticated technical reports. The second one can be used through its Command Line Version ( CLV ), which provides optimum performance. However, the worksheet interface is easier to use and renders typeset, editable math output and higher quality plots.
You can use Maple on linux servers cedr (Cukrovarnická) and sosna (Slovanka) and/or in the scope of activity in the Project LUNA.
