University Education

· 1984 - graduated (MSc.) at the Faculty of Science, Charles University, Prague
· 1985-1988 - PhD. study at the Institute of Parasitology of the then Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in České Budějovice
· 1989 - PhD thesis "Tapeworms of fishes of Czechoslovakia and biology of some species"
· 1999 - Associate Professor of Parasitology, Faculty of Biological Sciences, University of South Bohemia, České Budějovice

Research Activities and Stays Abroad

· 1989 - four-month-stay in Laos; studies on fish-borne parasitic diseases of humans (Opisthorchis viverrini and heterophyid trematodes)
· 1990-1998 - Acting Editor of the international journal Folia Parasitologica (impact factor 0.97 in 1996)
· 1991 - one-month-stay in Italy (Rome, Sardinia); helminths of freshwater and marine fishes
· 1993-1994 - one-year-stay at the Centre for Investigation and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute (CINVESTAV-IPN) Mérida, Yucatan, Mexico (visiting professor and head of Fish Pathology Group); taxonomy and biology of fish helminths, in particular trematodes.
· 1994-1998 - short stays in Switzerland (Natural History Museum, Geneva) and France (University of Montpellier, Sete; INRA Thonon); biology and taxonomy of tapeworms of fish and elasmobranchs
· 1998-1999 - one-year-stay at CINVESTAV-IPN Mérida, Yucatan, Mexico (visiting professor); taxonomy and life-cycles of fish helminths

Other activities

· Lecturer in international courses on fish parasites, especially on biology, morphology and taxonomy of fish cestodes and trematodes (Czech Republic, Austria, Mexico, USA).
· Lectures and practical courses of "Biology of Helminths" for students of parasitology at the Faculty of Biology, South Bohemian University, České Budějovice.
· Scientific Council of the Institute of Parasitology, České Budějovice (since 2000 head of the Council).
· Committee for Postgraduate Studies in Parasitology, Faculty of Science, Charles University, Prague, and Faculty of Biological Sciences, University of South Bohemia, České Budějovice.
