VISA -Schengen and national short-term visa requirements

Nationals of the following Countries do not require a visa for tourism and short business trips to the Czech Republic:

EU countries (27), Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland (also for stay exceeding 3 months).


Visit not exceeding 90 days:
Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong Kong special admin region of China, Israel, Japan, Macao special admin region of China, Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Republic of Korea, Salvador, San Marino, Sovereign Military Order of Malta, The Vatican, Uruguay, USA, Venezuela.

Visit not exceeding 30 days: Singapore.

Nationals of countries not appearing on the list above require a visa.

 

General information

  • The application for Czech visa must be submitted by an applicant in person. Personal presence is not required in case of persons under 15 years of age whose application can be submitted by their legal representative.
  • The Application Form must be completed duly, truthfully, in legible Roman capital letters and must be signed by an applicant (in case of persons under 15 years of age by his/her legal representative).
  • The photograph(s) must have size of 3.5 x 4.5 cm, the backround must not be red or dark blue, one photograph must be glued on the designated space of an application form.
  • Validity of a travel document must exceed the possible period of stay in the Czech Republic by at least 90 days.
  • The application for visa for up to 90 days shall be dealt with within 30 days of the submission of the application (family members of the EU citizens from Visa countries shall be dealt max. within 14 days). However usually the decission is made within 10 working days.
  • The application should be submitted together with other required items / documents.
  • Applicants are required to present photocopies of all original documents that will need to be returned to them after the visa application procedure (e.g. invitation letter, insurance, airtickets, …).
  • Submission of a completed visa application and all other documents does not guarantee that a visa will be issued. Holding of a visa does not guarantee the right to enter the Czech Republic, the final decision is up to the Czech Alien and Border Police at a border crossing.
  • All (short-term) visas issued before the entry of our country into Schengen will remain “national visa”, even if they are valid after January 1st, 2008.
  • Please note, that starting on September 1st, 2007, all visa applicants are checked in the Schengen Information System. Before that the security checks were done in Czech Database only. It may therefore happen that a person with Czech visa issued before September 1st, 2007, who will come to our country after this date, might be refused to enter on the basis of its presence in SIS.   • Comprehensive information about the laws and regulations applicable to the entry, stay and the residence of foreigners in the Czech Republic can be found on  the web address www.mvcr.cz/rady/cizinci.
  • Third country nationals should register with local office of “Služba pohraniční policie” (Alien’s Police Service) within 3 working days of their arrival in the Czech Republic. In case a foreign national intends to stay in a hotel or similar facility, the owner or manager of the hotel shall register him/her with immigration authorities. Nationals of EU+EEA+Switzerland and their family members, who are traveling with them, should register with Alien´s Police for stay exceeding 30 days.

Application for Visa for up to 90 days type C

Application must be completely filled out and signed, recent photograph showing face (front view) must be submitted. Passport must be valid for additional three months after the intended departure. With your application, please submit also the following documents – in originals with authorization (name and signature of the issuing person and stamp of the issuing organization), in Czech or English:
  • proof of financial means (bank statement, credit card, cash, proof of employment);
  • hotel/spa reservation or other proof of accommodation;
  • international travel transportation ticket (air ticket - electronic ticket, railway ticket, bus ticket); if traveling by car, please submit your car insurance;
  • international travel health insurance for minimum coverage of 30,000 EUR covering emergency medical treatment and return medical flight.

When the visa is refused
The visa procedure is governed by Act No. 326/1999 Coll., on stay of foreigners in the territory of the Czech Republic and amending certain acts (Aliens Act). According to Section 51 (2) of the Aliens Act, the issuance of visas is discretionary. A refusal to issue a visa is final and without appeal. The processing fee cannot be returned in case of visa denial or when the applicant does not use the issued visa for travel to the Czech Republic.

Protection of personal data

Personal data of applicants included in the visa application are submitted to appropriate Czech authorities in accordance with the Act. No. 101/2000 Coll., on protection of personal data. The data are used solely for the purpose of decision on the application.
