ON ARRIVAL IN PRAGUE

TRANSPORT

The international airport Praha is situated in Ruzyně about 20 km (12 miles) from the city centre and 8 km from the Institute, and is well served by city transport (prepaid tickets have to be validated in the bus, see Public transport below). In addition:

• airport buses operated by CEDAZ run in 30 min intervals from the airport to the city terminal (Praha 1, Náměstí Republiky, Metro station of the yellow line B) from 07:30 till 19:00. Airport-bus fare: 120 Kč to the city centre, 90 Kč to the Dejvická Metro station (as of January 2009).
• Airport Express runs in 30 min intervals from the airport to Prague Main railway station from approx. 5 a.m. till 9 p.m. Fare (when paid in bus): 50 Kč, children 6-14 years 25 Kč; from Dejvická 30 Kč; all railway tickets to Prague Airport (Praha letiště) and Supercity tickets of any class to Prague are valid also for the Airport Express bus - the separate railway ticket City - Airport costs 32 Kč, the airport surcharge to the railway ticket to Prague is about 20 Kč.

International trains arrive in Prague at the following railway stations: Praha - hlavní nádraží (Main Station; also a Metro station of the red line C), Praha-Holešovice (also a Metro station of the red line C), and Praha-Smíchov (also a Metro station of the yellow line B).

No special transport for the Meeting participants from the airport and railway stations is organized.

Public transport In Prague, an integrated transport system (underground Metro - runs from 5 a.m. till midnight, trams, and buses; Czech abbreviations "PID", or "MHD Praha" for its part inside City of Prague) operates without conductors. Tickets must be purchased in advance and stamped inside the tram or bus, or before passing the gates of the Metro. Most Metro stations are equipped with ticket machines. In buses, the most common 60-min tickets can also be purchased at the driver, but (with exception of buses 301-499) with additional charge of 5 Kč and and for the exact change only. Tickets are valid also on railway in most suburban trains, where they are to be stamped usually on the platform for at the station entrance. Tickets  Kč 18 - a single journey up to 20 min or 5 stations by Metro;  Kč 26 - a 75-min  transfer ticket If you plan to do more travelling within Prague, the short-term tickets may be useful for you: 24 hour ticket for City of Prague (100 Kč) or including Prague surroundings (150 Kč) 3 days (72 hours exactly) for City of Prague (330 Kč) for 1 fully paying passanger, allows the transport of 1 child in addition 5 days (120 hours exactly) for City of Prague (500 Kč) for 1 fully paying passanger, allows the transport of 1 child in addition Tickets are on sale at the airport, at railway stations, some newspaper stands and tobacco shops, at hotel reception desks, in restaurants, etc. Ticket machines are available in most metro stations and important tram and bus stops. During the conference, tickets can be purchased also in registration office. More detailed official information about transportation system, ticket and fares is available at the Prague information service or Prague Public Transit Company. The timetables in English are available at URL http://www.idos.cz/. Taxi Taxi can be hired at the at the airport or railway stations. The fare is max. 28 Kč per kilometre and 40 Kč the boarding fee within the city boundaries (January 2007 prices). A special taxi fare from the Prague Airport to the Institute is 500-600 Kč, to downtown 600-700 Kč. The Airport minibus service CEDAZ provides a transport to the City mostly for 480 Kč (1-4 persons). IUPAC sponsorship implies that entry visas will be granted to all bona fide scientists, provided application is made not less than three months in advance. If the visa is not granted one month before the Meeting, the IUPAC Secretariat (phone: +1-919-4858 701, fax: +1-919-4858 706) should be immediately notified without delay by the applicant.

INSURANCE

Participants are advised to arrange, prior to departure, health and travel insurances and whatever insurance they consider necessary. The registration fees do not include provision of any insurance. Neither organizing institutions nor their representatives assume responsibility or liability for personal accident and loss or damage to belongings however caused.
