This year marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Institute of Sociology of the Academy of Sciences and the reopening of the field of sociology in what was then Czechoslovakia.

To celebrate this special occasion the Institute of Sociology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic is planning to hold an anniversary celebration.

The Institute of Sociology will host this celebration for current and past employees, and friends and guests of the Institute on 12 December 2005 from 4 pm to 8 pm at Hybernská ul. 18 in Prague 1.

The anniversary will also be marked by an exhibition on the history and the current work of the Institute of Sociology. The exhibition will be held in the Sociological Library at Jilská 1 in Prague 1, opening on 15 December 2005, and everyone is warmly invited to visit.   

A number of other events commemorating the anniversary are also planned and will be announced over the course of the coming year.
