Abstract: The blur caused by camera shake is a serious problem for photographers. Especially when taking photographs under dim lighting conditions, the camera needs a long exposure time to gather enough light to form the image, which leads to objectionable blur. Producers of digital cameras mitigate this problem either by increasing camera sensitivity (ISO) or by using an optical image stabilization system's moving image sensor or an optical element to counteract camera motion. The former solution decreases image quality because of more noise, the latter helps to remove blur without increasing the noise level but at the expense of higher cost, weight and energy consumption. Recent advances in image processing make it possible to remove the blur in software. This talk reviews the image processing techniques we can use for this purpose and presents some promising results achieved by the author in the area of space-variant deblurring.
