The research interest of the department comprises linear and nonlinear signal processing, above all speech analysis and synthesis and digital frequency synthesis. In signal processing attention is concerned to the design and analysis of digital filters, spectral, cepstral and statistical signal analysis and number theoretic transforms. The aim of speech analysis and synthesis is the construction of Text-to-Speech systems with high intelligibility and naturalness on segmental and suprasegmental level for information systems and for handicapped people. Great attention is paid to voice conversion methods. In the field of digital frequency synthesis research is oriented to the evaluation of effects of random and deterministic components on spectral purity in digital frequency synthesizers.
