The total time of presentation is 20 minutes, which should be split appropriately, e.g. 15 min for speech and 5 min discussion.
The workshop is a gathering of people with different background, e.g. from technical or societal cybernetics. Keep this in mind when preparing your presentation.
The main goal of the workshop is to promote discussion and cooperation. Use your 20 mins to present the main idea of your research as clearly and understandably as possible. You can discuss details of your work with more specialized colleagues later in smaller group. The following recommendations summarize our experience from previous workshops:
- Spend more time on introduction and background of your work than usual. Make sure your audience clearly understands what problem you are trying to solve and why. Your colleagues may not follow your specific problem, yet they might be interested to talk about your interests in general.
- Do not be affraid to review elementary results in your field. What is trivial for you may be very educational and useful for your colleagues.
- Show us that your reseach is exciting and entertaining so that we can share this excitement with you. Attract people's attention by presenting the main idea in light and clear way, using simple diagrams, appropriate illustrations, examples, etc. Remember that `heavy' slides?such as complex diagrams or excessive mathematical expressions?brings boredom not excitement.
- Spread your main results. If you have achieved some result try to emhasize its significance, not technical details. Technical details can be found in the full paper, your task at presentation is to convince your audience that it is worth reading.
- If you are facing some difficulties in your research, do not be afraid to mention it. Someone in the audience may know how to overcome them.
