Institute of Mathematics

of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic

The Institute of Mathematics, founded in 1947, is the leading research institute for mathematics outside the university structure in the Czech Republic. The Institute performs advanced research in mathematics and theoretical computer science, collaborates intensively with other academic institutions in the country and worldwide, contributes essentially to sustaining the high level of mathematical research in our country, transfers modern mathematical knowledge, thinking, and methods to society via applications and education.  J. Nečas On December 13–15, 2009, an international workshop Nonlinear PDE's to commemorate Jindřich Nečas (1929–2002) will take place at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Charles University and the Institute of Mathematics of Academy of Sciences. More information is available here.

 Štefan Schwabik Prof. RNDr. Štefan Schwabik, DrSc. (1941-2009) passed away suddenly on November 4, 2009. He will be sadly missed. Announcement in Czech

   On Septemeber 30, 2009, Eduard Feireisl and his co-author Antonín Novotný (Toulon, France) received Award of Academy of Sciences of Czech Republic for scientific results of extraordinary significance from the President of the Academy of Sciences Jiří Drahoš for their work Singular limits in thermodynamics of viscous fluids.
