DEPARTMENT DETAILS
Department of Guided-wave Photonics

Chairman: Jiří Kaňka, Ph.D.
Division: Division of Photonics

Research is focused on theoretical and experimental study of optical fibre and integrated-optic structures for optical communication, sensors and measurement. It comprises research of both linear and nonlinear optical properties of silica optical fibres and structures, active fibres doped by rare-earth ions, fibre amplifiers and lasers employing stimulated emission as well as stimulated Raman scattering, and microstructure fibres. Research in Integrated Optics is directed toward theoretical analysis and characterisation of planar guided-wave structures and subsystems, photonic crystal waveguides and microresonator-based devices. Research teams of the Department of Guided-Wave Photonics tightly collaborate with the Department of Optical Sensors on theoretical analysis and experimental characterization of fibre- and surface-plasmon-based sensor structures and devices.
